It's Been a Heck of a Year. Treat Yourself. You Deserve it.

I’m probably the billionth person to state the obvious, but I’m going to say it anyway…2020 has been a dumpster fire of a year. We’re all trying our best to survive, some of us while working (others trying to find a new gig), raising kids, schooling said kids, taking care of ourselves, trying to avoid literal fires and floods…the list goes on and on. One silver lining of my year has been watching my partner, Karl, jump into this new venture. I hope you’re enjoying his Primed Finds and I hope you don’t mind that he’s given me a little corner of he and his brothers’ space to share some of my favorites, as well.

A bit about me before I share my finds. I’m Eve, a small business owner in the marketing and communications space who proudly works with an all-female team. Outside of traveling and enjoying live music with Karl and our toddler as often as we can (which is far less often these days), I love drinking wine, being outdoors and giving back/volunteering.

I’ve struggled to balance mom life with entrepreneur life and I know I’m not the only one, so this year, I wanted to share a gift guide that’s all about YOU and treating yourself…especially if you’re a mom. Below you’ll find some of my favorite self-care finds.

Treat Yourself with These Meticulously Curated Finds

Tres leches is more than a dessert for Texans…it’s a way of life. Want to enjoy the best tres leches in my backyard, or ship it to someone else you love? Head to Dessert Gallery Bakery & Cafe’s online store for tres leches in a jar (or cupcakes in a jar!), which they can ship anywhere in the country!

Reading has been such a surprising antidote to my stress and overwhelm lately. If you’re a working mom like me, I highly recommend Glennon Doyle’s Untamed or Brigid Schulte’s Overwhelmed.

Treating Yourself Never Felt So Good

While you’re treating yourself, consider purchasing from businesses or brands that make a difference.

A Mission-Driven Jeweler

Houston-based jeweler, Dubin’s Fine Jewelry recently launched its first necklace “for good,” “A Book for A Book.” This book charm necklace is totally customizable, from metal type, to birthstone, engraving and more. The best part? When you purchase one of these necklaces, Dubin’s donates a book to Books Between Kids in your honor!

Treat Mother Earth

If you’re trying to do your part to curb climate change and protect our environment, check out 4Ocean’s bracelets. Made my Balinese women, each bracelet sold funds the removal of one pound of trash from our oceans and coastlines!

The Coffee Mugs that Give Back

Before I spent nearly every waking moment working and playing at home, coffee mugs were not big on my list. I’ve since found that my mornings are more joyful with the right cup of coffee in one of my favorite mugs. Head to Etsy to support local artists…and if you’re a Deadhead like Karl and me, you’ll love just how many Grateful Dead mugs you can find. This Etsy seller donates a portion of every purchase to the Mockingbird Foundation in Alabama to help homeless communities.
